Trifonov began studying piano at the age of 5 and performed in his first solo recital at the age of 7. From 2009 to 2015, he studied with S. Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He won a Grammy in 2018 for his recordings of the études for piano by Franz Liszt.
